He arrived in Barbados in or before 1654, where he may have attended to business affairs for friends and relatives in London (including his stepmother's brother, Theodore Pargiter - see NEH & G Reg 38, 424, 1926) who often dealt indirectly with the Virginia Colony through agents in Barbados. He may have settled in Surry Co, Va before 1658. No record of the Washington-Ford marriage has been found - only the prenuptial agreement of November 15, 1658

The Washington Ancestry, Charles A. Hoppin, 1932, Vol 1, p 143.
In the will of Theodor Pargiter, dated London, August 2, 1654 and proved there on May 20, 1656 (Register Berkeley, 164, PCC), "I stand indebted to the account of John Washington as per account sent him 38 pound 10 shillings and 10 pence which monies is to pay the fraughte of Servants to the Barbadoes in case his friends have or shall provide anie to send him." This will further calls John Washington "my Cosen". Theodor Pargiter's sister Dorothy married Sir John Washington, Knight of Thrapston, Northamptonshire. John was a nephew by marriage and was called "cosen", because at that time in England nephews, nieces, and cousins were all commonly called cousins. Sir John's son John is thus proven to have been on August 2, 1654, on the isle of Barbados, West Indies. While he was in Barbados a man surnamed Lanier was also there, so the descendants of the Laniers of Surry County, Virginia, understand.
We have made a study of Washington records in England having any possible bearing upon this John Washington, and we have exhausted the Washington records at Barbados. They show that he did not return to England or remain in Barbados after 1658. He is of record in American in Surry County, Virginia, first in 1658
