Henry came to Virginia with his father, John Batte, in 1646. From the Va Land Registry #6, p 126, comes the information that he and his brother Thomas patented in 1668, 5875 acres of land on the south side of the James River. In 1673 he and John Sturdivant patented 3258 acres on the south side of the James River in Appomatocks on the 2nd branch of the Blackwater River.
He lived in Prince George or Dinwiddie County and was prominent member of the House of Burgesses in 1677 (from Wm & Mary Quarterly, 1934 p 79. Also, served during 1685/6.
During 1693/4 he was a justice of peace in Charles City County. In December of 1695, Henry went back to London to attend to legal business. At the time he was still a member of House of Burgess. In April 1696 Charles Goodrich is elected to replace Henry, who is still out of the county. Henry returned to Virginia before September 1696 and petitioned the Council to return his seat. He was ordered to withdraw.
