Notes for Abraham Sublett

From Icle Smith: the Courthouse of Jackson Co, which was located at Belfont a few miles to the north and east of the present location, Scottsboro, Alabama. was burned by a group of US Soldiers during the War between the States. In this fire practically all of the records of deeds, marriages, settlement of estates were destroyed. Therefore part of the record just has to be pieced together. One of the old records was saved. From this one book was taken the deed record showing Abraham Sublett calling his property up in the northeastern part of the county and signing the deed, giving his address Jackson Co. Ala. while that of his wife, Temperance, was given as the Cherokee nation. Soon thereafter Subletts Ferry was established on the Tennessee River. The conclusion is that Abraham established this ferry.
